How It All Began
Our journey began with a simple yet profound act of compassion. On June 28, 2022, our founder, Elijah S. Tingban, launched a private initiative to raise awareness about malaria and STD prevention in Buchanan, Grand Bassa, as part of his birthday celebration. Inspired by the 2022 World Malaria Day slogan, “Zero Malaria Starts With Me,” and with the support of 19 friends, including classmates, the Health Awareness and Community Support Outreach (HACSO) was successfully implemented. This effort laid the foundation for Africa Access Health, which was officially established in March 2023 and registered as a nonprofit organization on August 3, 2023. In early 2024, we rebranded as Remote Health Reach (RHR) to better reflect our commitment to serving Liberia’s most remote communities and our mission to reach those who need us most.
Since March 2023, we have embarked on a journey to deliver quality healthcare to underserved communities in Liberia. This mission is deeply personal to our founder, Elijah S. Tingban, who was born outside a health facility in a displaced camp in Kakata, Margibi County, during the civil war, without trained health workers present. He grew up in communities where access to quality healthcare services remains an existential challenge; his experiences mirror the struggles faced by many Liberians, especially those living in rural and/or underserved communities.
Together with Ms. Cecelia R.A. Barbu and a team of dedicated young people, RHR was founded to break these barriers and create real change. RHR exists to ensure the attainment of “Health for All.”
We are a member of the World Patients Alliance, a global organization advocating for patient-centered care. At RHR, we are at the forefront of promoting patient rights, improving the quality of care, and empowering communities to strengthen Liberia’s healthcare delivery system.
